Born in a small town in West Bengal, Asansol. Sourav Roy hails from a family which was deeply rooted in Indian Classical music. Sourav Roy’s father Ram Ranjan Roy worked in the Government sector and was a tabla player, and his mother was a singer. He played Tabla for few years but had to discontinue his practice due to health reasons and then he shifted his focus to synthesizers and keyboards. He has attained a degree from Trinity College of Music and has learned music from Mr. Sam Engineer in Kolkata.
Sourav Roy was a part of Fusion bands like Taal Yagna and Taal Tantra, later pursued a career in music and started working as a full-time arranger cum producer. His first project after shifting to Mumbai in 2008 was ‘Sorry Bhai’. He then worked closely with Raju Singh for background score and one of his earlier background scores was for Sanjay Dutt starer ‘Kidnap (2008 film)’. At the same time, he also worked with well-known music directors like Vishal–Shekhar, Pritam, Amit Trivedi, Amaal Mallik, Meet Bros and Anand Raj Anand. He also worked as a music composer for the Movie “Banjo” in 2016 Along with Producing Background scores. Sourav then started producing songs and his first track as a music producer was ‘Aafaton Ke Parinde’ from Ishaqzaade movie. Sourav’s latest work is the theme track from Colors’ Tamil channel in which he has composed 2 signature tracks for Colors.
